Q1. What are .JP domain names?

A1. co.jp domains are domains which are restricted to Japanese companies. Only one .CO.JP domain can be registered per company and in order to register a .co.jp domain, you will need to fax us a copy of your toukibotouhon; issued from the Japanese government. The approval process for the .co.jp domain is generally 1 week. (Please see Q9 for .co.jp domain registrations. )

.jp domains are domains which are unrestricted and both companies and individuals can register them. Although this domain still requires Japan presence, we will be happy to assist you with the domain registration.

JP-Domains.com, specializes only in .jp domains and we will be happy to assist you with local presence to those who require, at no extra cost.

.JP domains can be registered in English ASCII characters or Japanese alphabets/kanji characters.

Q4. Who can register .JP Domains?

Q6. Do I have to be a company to register?

A6. No. Companies and Individuals both can purchase a .JP domain name. However, for .CO.JP domains, you will require a Japanese company or Japanese branch company and provide us with a document issued from the Japanese government known as the toukibotouhon.

Q7. Can I register in Japanese characters?

A7. Yes. Registration applications are accepted in the "Shift-JIS" Japanese encoding format. This is known as IDN domains. We offer special packages for IDN domains.

Q8. Are there restrictions on hosting .JP domains?

A8. JP domains can be hosted anywhere in the world.

Q9. Can I register .co.jp domains?

A9. Yes, we can register .co.jp domains, however, these domains are highly restricted and you will require a Japanese Business License in Japan. If you have a Japanese business license, please contact support and we will be happy to assist you.

A10. Yes, we can register .ne.jp domains. You do not require residence in Japan or a company in Japan. Please contact us for details.
