Only one .CO.JP domain can be registered per company, and to register a .CO.JP domain, you will need to fax us a copy of your toukibotouhon (corporate registration certificate) issued by the Japanese government. The registration process generally takes 1?3 hours. .JP domains are unrestricted and can be registered by both companies and individuals. Although Japan presence is required, we can assist you with local presence at no extra cost. .JP domains can be registered in English ASCII characters or Japanese alphabets/kanji characters.

.JP can be registered by anyone without restriction. .NE.JP and .GR.JP are intended for networks and groups or organizations, respectively. .CO.JP domains are for Japanese companies only (one per company). Q9. Are there restrictions on hosting .JP domains?

JP domains can be hosted anywhere in the world. If you have a hosting provider or a server; please either update the nameservers for the domain, or the DNS records in our control panel. The domain should point to the new server within 30 mins to 1 hour. (Note: sometimes DNS takes up to 24 hours to change. This depends on the location and DNS server in the world.)

Q11. Can I register .CO.JP domains?

Yes, we offer 3 options for registering .CO.JP domains.

OPTION 1: If you have a Japanese company registered in Japan (Kabushikikaisha, GodoGaisha, Yuugengaisha etc.) we can register your .co.jp domain. Please send us a copy of your company toukibotouhon and we can proceed with the registration. Only 1 .co.jp domain may be registered per company. Search for a .co.jp domain HERE.

OPTION 2: If you are planning to set up a company in Japan within 6-months, you may use our 6-month protection service. To keep the domain, you will be required to set up a company in Japan within six months and we will require your company toukibotouhon within 6-months. Search for a .co.jp domain HERE.

Q12. What are .NE.JP Domains? Can I register .NE.JP domains?

Yes, we can register .ne.jp domains. .NE.JP domains are the Japanese version of NET/Network domains. You do not require residence in Japan or a company in Japan.

Q13. What are .GR.JP Domains? Can I register .GR.JP domains?

Yes, we can register .gr.jp domains. .GR.JP domains known as Group or Organization domains. Many Organizations choose to use .GR.JP domains. You do not require residence in Japan or a company in Japan.

Q14. What are local presence requirements for.NE.JP/ .GR.JP Domains?

To register .NE.JP and .GR.JP domains local presence is required. To prove local presence, we provide the JPRS with documentation known as an inkanshoumeisho. For .NE.JP domains 1 inkanshoumeisho from 1 individual is required. For .GR.JP domains 2 inkanshoumeisho from 2 individuals, 2 companies or 1 individual and 1 company is required. We provide these documents at no extra cost for the registration of the domain.

However, if an .NE.JP or .GR.JP domain is to be transferred out to another registrar, you will need to provide these documents prior to transferring out the domain. There is also a $40 JPRS fee to update the registrant information to your information. We will first update the WHOIS records and then assist with the transferring out of these domains. Warning: once the domain has been transferred out, it will be impossible to remove our details from the WHOIS records. Therefore we will need to first update the records before transferring out. (This differs from .JP and .CO.JP domains where these documents are not required.)

Q15. My domain expired. Can I still renew the domain?

According to the JPRS rules, you may still renew your domain until the 20th of the following month Japan time. However, unfortunately the JPRS charges a $25 extra fee to renew domains in Suspended Mode. If you wish to renew your domain, please click on "Expired Domains" in the control panel. If you experience problems, please inform us immediately; as after the 20th of the following month, it is impossible to renew the domain.

For .CO.JP and .NE.JP domains, the process is different. Please contact us immediately if you require assistance.
